Since 1993, the Division of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DDHH) has distributed assistive technology to qualified deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind New Jersey residents, as well as those with a serious speech impediment.
To qualify for the Equipment Distribution Program, an audiologist or physician must certify that the applicant needs the equipment due to his or her degree of hearing loss or speech impairment. Qualified applicants must have an annual household income no greater than $45,000. Only one of each device will be distributed per household in a five-year period.
The devices distributed include TTYs, amplified phones, VCO phones, captioned telephones, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, baby cry alert systems, baby cry alert systems and artificial larynx devices.
